Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-07-23
DownIt is built so your writing stays yours. There is no DownIt server sitting between you and your work — the app talks directly to GitHub and, if you choose to use it, to the AI provider you pick. Here's exactly what that means.
What we don't do
No analytics. No crash reporting. No ads. No tracking of any kind. DownIt doesn't know you're using it.
Your GitHub access
Your GitHub access token is stored only on your device, and it's used solely to call GitHub's API on your behalf — listing repos, reading files, and making commits. Signing in requires one step through a small relay we run (GitHub's OAuth flow needs a server to complete the handshake): it passes your one-time login code to GitHub and hands the resulting token straight back to your device. It doesn't store that token or log its contents.
AI chat (bring your own key)
DownIt's AI chat works with your own API key for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Groq. That key is stored only on your device. When you ask a question, the request goes directly from your device to the provider you chose — never through a server we operate. Each provider handles that request under its own privacy policy.
Your files
Markdown files you open are cached on-device so you can read and edit offline. That cache never leaves your device except when you explicitly commit and push to your own GitHub repository.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will be updated and the new version posted here.
